The end of an amazing year at the Kalkbrott!

So 2019 is ending and it has been a great year around Limhamn's Kalkbrott.  We are very lucky to be able to live, work and play around such an amazing place and there were plenty of highlights this year!


There are many nice moments that I have captured here and on the Kalkbrottet.nu Instagram account so it's nice to look back at all the great Kalkbrott moments from the year. 

Highlights include:

- Kalkbrottsloppet in August which was great fun
- Free guided tours of the Kalkbrott
- Summer kids activities
- the festivals at Sibbarp and Limhamn harbour
- 'Allsång vid Kalkbrottet' in the summer at Four Gardens mat & bar

...and we have had the constant stream of walkers and runners enjoying the path around the top of the Kalkbrott throughout the different seasons.

Limhamn's Kalkbrott is an amazing place and we're all looking forward to more great events and activities throughout 2020.

Autumn at Limhamn's Kalkbrott

The last few weeks have seen the leaves changing colour and the onset of Autumn at Limhamn's Kalkbrott.  We have had a few windy days, but we have also had some beautiful days with blue skies and warm sunshine.  The Kalkbrott looks really nice at this time of year and Malmo Stad and Limhamn's Kalkbrott have run a number of cool activities too:

Kalkbrottsloppet 2019 - great fun and an amazing run!

This year's Kalkbrottsloppet was on the earlier date of 31st August and it was great fun!  Warm and well supported, this event saw several hundred runners setting off down the slope into Limhamn's Kalkbrott for a timed run of just over 5km.


We can't wait to do it again next year!

Top of the Turning Torso tour - Malmo

The Turning Torso skyscraper in Malmo is Northern Europe's tallest building and this summer they allowed visitors to go to the top!  Tickets were booked through turningtorso.se and on selected days HSB took groups to the 54th floor.

There was a presentation about the history of the Turning Torso skyscraper (in Swedish) with a slide show that showed photos from Malmo's past.  This slide show also gave facts and figures about the Turning Torso and showed how the Turning Torso was built.

We were then free to look around the whole top floor of the Turning Torso.  There were even telescopes that we could use to look into the distance at Denmark and the surrounding areas of Malmo and Limhamn.  The views were great and we could see for a long way.

Hamnfestivalen - 25-28 July 2019 (Limhamn)

This coming weekend it's Hamnfestivalen in Limhamn's harbour area.  From 25-28 July it's 3 days of bands, food and activities - check out the Facebook page (search 'Hamnfestivalenpolimhamn') or check out the website and have fun!.

New playground at Elinegard now open

A big playground has opened between the new Elinegard School and the new Hemkop.  There is a kind of park area with picnic tables (and a huge public toilet!) and the playground has swings and a large climbing frame.  Lots of new flowers and trees have been planted too and, even though there is a lot of building still to take place, the whole area at the east end of Limhamn's Kalkbrott is starting to look really nice....!

Allsång vid Kalkbrottet! Starts 26th June at Four Gardens Mat and Spa

The first event of the season for 'allsång vid Kalkbrottet' is at Four Gardens Mat and Bar next to the Kalkbrott in Limhamn on 26th June.  Lasse Berggrensson and band will start at 20:00 so that everyone has time to get home from work and join in. 

The Allsång vid Kalkbrottet events will run for 5 weeks between 26th June and 24th July with special guests appearing every week to lead the singing :

Midsummer fair at Sibbarp

Happy midsummer!  Close to the Kalkbrott there is a fair at Sibbarp this weekend with rides, food and market stalls.  We shared a nice photo of the big wheel on Instagram (click READ MORE to see it):

Kalkbrottsdagarna 14-16 June 2019 - visit the Kalkbrott!

Kalkbrottsdagarna is coming in June with opportunities to take part in a range of activities around Limhamn's awesome Kalkbrott!

There are many different things arranged for visitors to the Kalkbrott on Kalkbrottsdagarna 2019:

- Free guided tours of the Kalkbrott (need to book in advance)

- Fossil hunting - on Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June visitors can hunt for sharks teeth and other fossils!

- An outdoor exhibition shows images of the past and information on the history of Kalkbrottet

- Take part in competitions and games and even catch a pony ride from the Malmo riding club on 
Sunday


There will also be coffee for sale and on Sunday the youth club will be selling sausages too.

A great weekend to come and learn more and enjoy the amazing Limhamn Kalkbrott!

Hemkop now open at Elinegard (next to Limhamn's Kalkbrott)

Hemkop have opened their fourth store in Malmo in the new development at Elinegard next to Limhamn's Kalkbrott.  Open every day from 0700 to 2100 with parking outside, Hemkop Elinegard has an in-store bakery, a salad bar and other fresh food as well as an ATM and a pant room too.

Kalkbrottsloppet 2019 - run in Limhamn's Kalkbrott!

The annual run inside Limhamn's Kalkbrott is scheduled for August this year and on 31st August 2019 you can again run inside Kalkbrottet!

Kalkbrottsloppet 2019 run is 5.4km long and is one of the hilliest organised runs in Malmo with 120m of uphill running across the course.  Organisers say:

"The course: The first 600m. is flat, and then it goes downhill on a gravel road into Kalkbrottet. Please be aware of your footing as you run down the hill. After a little bit of flat running there will be a “little” hill that you will have to run up and then back into Kalbrottet. Here you will run for another kilometer before you will run up the last hill and exit Kalkbrottet on the western side, and run towards the finish."
Looks great fun and after selling out in previous year's the advice is to book up early!
